I think a lot of Denverites are proud to admit they're alcoholics. Yeah, Austin doesn't have a great sports bar scene imo. It's sort of the opposite reaction to Salt Lake City. Denver is known for weed, but beer / booze is a bigger deal on the ground. It's part of the scene, judging by the size of the Great American Beer Fest. COS gets a bad rap for the conservatives, but they mix up the thought diversity pot a lot more than Denver's monoculture. Aurora's more functional and master planned better with nicer suburbs, but Colorado Springs has all of what you just mentioned, except it's not 30 miles from anything exciting outdoors and there's much more uniqueness. Interesting! I know there's a lot of chain cross over so there's similar places in both, but the experience must be different.
